Advent Altar + Candlestick Set

Details

A ceremonial (or not) 4-candle centerpiece/altar.

Each altar includes 2 pairs (4) of 10" hand dipped beeswax taper candles (9 hr burn time each).

  • These candles are 100% beeswax and hand dipped in upstate NY by Alysia Mazzella. Made with local beeswax.
  • The vessel measures approximately 11" wide. Candle holders are attached to the base.
  • The best way to clean is to *gently* remove the wax with a butter knife while it is still malluable (after you blow the candles out). You can also place onto a baking sheet and put in the oven at the lowest temperature (put the piece in to oven *before* it is hot to gradually heat it up) until the wax softens or melts and you can either remove gently with a butter knife or wipe the wax away. Google for more ideas!
  • Due to the one of a kind, handmade nature of the candlesticks and candles, to secure a good fit, you can put a flame up to the bottom of the candlestick while holding it over the holder to melt a little pool of wax- then stick the candle in and hold it upright for a few seconds until the wax has hardened and the candle is secure. You can also use a candlestick adhesive.

Each piece is handmade with heart. Because of this, there may be slight variations in size and glazing. It is part of the beauty of handmade pottery.

  • In resistance of late-stage capitalism...I do not advocate for impulsive shopping that adds to one of the many facets of detrimental consumerism/environmental despair in our world. My deepest wish is for these vessels to be loved and used often, rather than sit untouched. Likewise, please remember that these vessels will not fulfill joy deeper than any non-transactional activity.

Through the season with this piece

A centerpiece vessel that will make any space feel like a cozy home.

Autumnal candle gazing, watching the flame dance, getting lost on the shades of oranges and reds and yellows that make the heart feel held. A circle of light for the transition into darker, colder days.

To use for an advent wreath, light one candle each week, marking each of the four sundays leading up to Christmas. Place greenery around the vessel or any other seasonal offerings from the living world around you.

Make up your own springtime ritual to usher in adundance and the growing season ahead. Light the 4 candles in honor of the 4 elements working together, or for 4 prayers you have during this time. Place the candle altar on a table and decorate with other seasonal offerings.

Estival dinner parties, finishing with the scent of beeswax smoke from blowing our candles after a supper shared with loved ones- full with nourishing conversation, good company, and food.

"...But knowing they were each individually made by one person on a mission to make and provide quality goods in a sustainable, thoughtful manner is really what makes them special."
